Herbert Run Cleanup near Ingleside Community in Catonsville

Join Patapsco Heritage Greenway with the Ingleside Community and Westowne Elementary School as we work together to clean up the Herbert Run stream!

Each year volunteers like these help us remove tons of trash from the watershed. This past year, due to the flash flood of July 30th, there is even more debris to remove. Come and join us! Wear long sleeves, long pants, sturdy shoes and sunscreen. Bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated and we’ll provide the tools you need to really make a difference! Spaces are limited so register soon!

Specific meet-up location and directions will be sent 72 hours ahead of the event.

Weed Warrior Group Leader Certification Training Class (Part I) @ Howard Community College

Weed Warrior Group Leader Certification Training Class (Part I) @ Howard Community College

Most natural communities support a great variety of native plants and animals. Such biodiversity is threatened when a few plant species take over and dominate the herbaceous, shrub, and canopy layers of a forest. Learn how to identify and remove the exotic invaders threatening our native landscapes. You too can become a weed warrior and lead the charge to restore the local bio-habitats. Along with Patapsco Heritage Greenway, join John McCoy of the Columbia Association and Bob Marietta as they present the two-part Weed Warrior Group Leader certification class. Both parts are required for certification but do not have to be taken in order.

Benjamin Banneker Rain Garden Workshop and Maintenance @ Benjamin Banneker Historical Park and Museum

Join us to learn more about how rain gardens work to control stormwater and how to maintain them. In the Spring of 2016, Patapsco Heritage Greenway funded the rain garden at the Benjamin Banneker Historical Park and Museum. PHG hired Lauren’s Garden Service to build the rain garden at this historical site. At this workshop, please come prepared to work in the garden to prepare it for the summer season. We will meet at the garden for an introductory talk and Q & A session on rain gardens and their importance to the environment. Afterwards we will do some weeding, planting, and mulching.
